LDR Stuffs

With the popularity of the Internet bridging people from all corners of the world, it only comes natural that it also starts up relationships and help maintain them. We don't have any control who we are attracted to. Whether it's a long-term relationship currently on long distance or never-met couples, creative ideas to keep our beloved close to us one way or another are always a fun way to close in on the distance.

Being in a long-distance relationship myself, thinking of fun things to do with my boyfriend through the internet can be kinda difficult. So here's a list of fun things you can do with and for your SO.

Online

  • Skype/Google Hangouts - a must-have with every LDR. Communication is an essential part of every form of relationship and with the distance impediment, it becomes even more important in LDRs. Considering that having a stable VoIP for communication is important, you might want to expand the possibilities by getting a good webcam and headset :)
  • Communication apps! - Gonna be away from a desktop for a long time? Based on my experience, Skype for Android is not really a battery-savvy app (especially for my Samsung Galaxy Y) so my boyfriend and I used Whatsapp for the time being. It was great but while the service was free (for the first year, at least) we found that other apps that were totally free and offered more. We personally use LINE nowadays since it's totally free for use, free calls and fun stickers/emotes to use when sending messages. It also has a desktop app so I can call him to keep him company going to uni. It's easy and faster than other apps we've tried. Other options are KakaoTalk and Viber. Feel free to pick which ones you prefer :) There's a ton of them out there!
  • Couple apps! - Couple apps are great way to communicate exclusively with your SO. Your own special place to send messages, share pictures and more! All in one place! My boyfriend and I use Avocado which is free to use with certain limitations on some features. It also has a desktop version so you can still use it when you're not on your phone. Our favourite feature has to be the Hug and Kiss features. Not to mention avocados are just plain yummy and awesome! Another alternative is Between, which is completely free and offers a bunch of features like countdowns and sending voice messages within the app.
  • Multiplayer Games - I'm not much of a gamer and my boyfriend isn't really into MMORPGs, so finding games to play proved to be a little problematic. Our favourite? Board Game Online! It's a fun, creative board game...online (hehe)

Offline

A month into my relationship, i've decided that the best gifts I can give to the boyfriend without breaking my already broken bank is to make handmade gifts for him It could be as simple as a letter, or if you want to get more creative, here's some gift ideas.

  • Love Notes - Write encouraging notes or memorable things about your relationship in separate envelopes. Daily or whenever he/she feels lonely, these love notes are an easy and cute reminder. Be as creative as you want :)
  • Origami Stars - Like Love Notes, but more time-consuming...kinda. Knowing how to fold these are the key, just remember to write your note inside the paper before folding them. You can make enough to fill a mason jar and can be given as a present to him/her.
When you are with each other with a limited amount of time, I suggest you try not to overboard with going out and seeing things. What's important is the memories you create between you two that you can draw strength in when times get tough. Maybe spend a day doing regular things a couple normally do. Watch a movie, sip cognac by the fire and make sweet love perhaps?

There are no guidelines on how to run a long distance relationship. Settle with what makes you both happy and stay strong. :)
