My initial reaction upon watching Meganebu was an awkward mix of hilarity and "wtf am I watching!?" emotions. I really just didn't know what to expect. With a given summary that was mainly talking about "Guys with glasses" I didn't think this would be it.
To be honest, I enjoyed this more than Free! (Yes, free was terrible) and I think the uncommon aspects of the scenes were cool. In the opening scene, a crowd was shown to be nothing more than hyper-excited blobs. Even the pink-colored building looked over the top with it's super-reflective windows. Of course, I'll never forget this hilarious opening scene. I burst into giggles after this!
The entire episode did really good in introducing the characters and the individual situations that they are in, in all manners of absurdity of course. They've lost their meeting room and they meet at the rooftop which they have barricaded so only themselves can enter. They were desperate to finish their X-Ray glasses to test them out on the "hot nurse" that was going to do their vision test.
I was wrong to assume this show was really nothing more than slapstick gags that hold no meaning, but now I think it shows a rather "real" side to being a kid with "unrealistic" play. I'm going to follow this anime even further along. I realize that perhaps this isn't anyone's cup of tea (everyone's into shounen/harem/romcoms these days) but I hope this anime gets good reviews.
I want to tell Gunter to maybe give this one a try. He has worn glasses for so long in his life and I think he at least gets the plight, though I don't think he ever got to do all these crazy games.
